High-pressure ship washing — 400–600 bar
Ship washing with water at 400–600 bar. This is a separate operation and does not replace ultra-high-pressure waterjet cleaning at 2,500–3,000 bar.
Ultra-High Pressure — UHP Waterjetting
The shipyard has eight specialist FALCH and HAMMELMANN units operating at 2,500–3,000 bar. Cleaning removes corrosion products, deteriorated coatings and contaminants, preparing the surface for protective painting. The stated waterjetting preparation grade is Wa 2½ in accordance with ISO 8501-4:2020.
Robotic Hull Cleaning
ASABA uses two FALCH robots for robotic hull cleaning.
Hull and Structures
- Preparation of external hull plating and metal structures.
- Abrasive blast preparation to Sa 2½ — a separate process from waterjet cleaning to Wa 2½.
Internal Tank Surfaces
Cleaning, surface preparation and coating of ballast, fuel, lubricating-oil, freshwater and sewage tank interiors. The work method and coating system are selected to suit the tank’s purpose, surface condition and technical specification.
Airless Coating Application
Marine protective coatings are applied using WIWA and GRACO equipment. Surface preparation, coating system and application condition requirements are agreed for each project.
Ship equipment and internal spaces
- Cleaning, painting and marking of anchors, anchor chains and chain lockers.
- Cleaning and painting of bottom and overboard valves and piping.
- Cleaning and painting of the superstructure, engine room, machinery, boilers and exhaust system, using paints suited to their purpose and operating conditions.
Technical parameters are provided for preliminary assessment. Suitability for a particular vessel, equipment item and project is confirmed by the shipyard when agreeing the work.
